Rachel McDowell
District Administrator for the Probation and Parole Offices in Cole, Osage, and Moniteau counties
“My favorite part of my job is working toward community success, making sure that people who come into my office have the opportunity to change their lives. It is really important that we work and strive for those changes. If we can change the client’s life, then we can change their home life, their children’s lives, and in fact their community.”
Dominique Cutts
Unit Supervisor with the Missouri Department of Corrections
“My favorite part is the benefits package is the flexibility. Within the department, we understand that life happens. We understand that there are things that go on in our personal lives, just like the people we supervise. Having that flexibility to live my life and do what I need to do but also come into work and help keep the community safe is a big plus for me.”
Jared Drummond
District Administrator for Probation and Parole, District 6
“We need people within our community to understand the importance of what we are doing. The individuals we work with have made consequential choices. Some have grown up in terrible neighborhoods with a lack of guidance. Many have been impacted by trauma and drug usage. This is your opportunity to make our community a better place, and it starts by caring for others and wanting to improve our neighborhoods and others’ lives.”
Kim Hubbard-Stewart
Western Regional Administrator for Probation and Parole
“When someone decides they want to be a Probation and Parole Officer, they start with 12 weeks of basic training. Keep in mind, those 12 weeks of basic training is just the foundation for the position. We are hands on, and training is every day. There are trainers who will come out to district offices and work one-on-one with Probation and Parole Officers. They have mentors and coaches who also assist with the training.”
Luke Haller
Employee Support Manager for the Western Region
“If I could give anyone a piece of advice, it would be that you can do anything you want; you just have to put in the time and do your job well. If you show up for people, they will show up for you. There are so many options within the Department of Corrections, so if you work hard and set goals, you will promote.”
Greg Wykes
Assistant Division Director for the Division of Human Services
“Many people associate the Missouri Department of Corrections with offender supervision and law enforcement, when there are a lot of positions out there that are just as rewarding, but in other ways. I encourage people to look at the careers we have available online to recognize that there are other positions out there besides working with offenders.”
Amy Kitchens
Employee Health Nurse Coordinator for the Division of Human Services
“One of my favorite stories refers to an older gentleman who had come to me for an injured foot. He would come in consistently for me to rebandage his foot. He started to develop a routine of coming to me every day, and he did, probably for much longer than he needed my help. But, through his daily visits, we had built a friendship. He would tell me about his granddaughter’s basketball games and show me pictures. This relationship became much more than a patient-nurse relationship; I was able to share a bright spot in his life. “
Jose Rivera
Captain
“A career with the Department of Corrections is a calling that has a purpose because of the critical need of corrections work. Being employed with the Department of 11 years, I have learned social and leadership skills that are invaluable.”
April Link
Lieutenant
“I grew up with a mother who worked corrections, so it has been a part of my life for many years. I chose a career in corrections because I want to be able to make a difference in my community, but also to provide a stable income for my family.”
William Baumbach
Sergeant
“I chose corrections for the stability of the job and the opportunity to advance. The job is challenging and rewarding”
